YOU CAN’T STRETCH A MUSCLE
Your flexibility lives in your nervous system, not in your muscles.

You were told stretching makes muscles longer. It does not. That is not an opinion. It is what the research shows, and almost no one has read it all the way down.
This is a short, rigorous book that takes a part the most repeated advice in fitness and rebuilds it from the evidence up. Flexibility is not a property of your muscles. It is a permission your nervous system grants, and it can be earned far more intelligently than by hanging in a stretch and hoping.

WHO WROTE THIS
I am Yoby Étienne, an exercise scientist and muscular health specialist in Los Angeles. I am a veteran and a lifelong athlete, and I have spent my career on the muscular system — until a fall and a failed treatment made me read all the way to the bottom of something I thought I already understood. This book is what I found. I write and teach about the difference between what feels true and what is true.
Stretching does not lengthen muscles. It reaches your nervous system to allow more, and chasing that without strength is how strong people quietly get hurt. If that is interesting to you, this book is where it goes deep.
